2 Sam 6 : 14-16. " And David danced before the Lord with all his might; and David was girded with a linen ephod. So David and all the house of Israel brought up the ark of the Lord with shouting, and with the sound of the trumpet. And as the ark of the Lord came into the city of David, Michal Saul's daughter looked through a window, and saw king David leaping and dancing before the Lord; and she despised him in her heart."
David attended with high expressions of joy. We ought to serve God with our whole body and soul, and with every endowment and power we possess.
On this occasion David laid aside his royal robe (purple) robes, and put on a plain linen ephod (dress). And so David, declared that although he was king of Israel, yet he willingly owned himself to be the Lord's minister. David prayed with and for the people, and as a prophet, solemnly blessed them in the name of the Lord. This also is what the Lord ask of you dear prince and princess of the Most High.
Michal's objection was that it was unbefitting a king. David was girded with a linen ephod, (Priestly robe). It was regarded by Michal as an act of humiliation, as it was a dress worn even by a child when admitted to service in a priest's family (1 Sam 2:18).
We must also not look for human appraisal.
This act of David is exactly what Jesus did for us. He laid down his royal robes and put on his priestly linen dress. He became our High Priest. He became our sacrifice and still intercedes for us. He did not look for human appraisal but his only desire was to do the will of the Father.
